The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics will be held Wednesday at the old Effingham County courthouse from 7:30-8 a.m. All Effingham County Lightning team members will help carry the torch and hand off to state police who will then take it from Effingham to Mattoon.
This is a kickoff to the Special Olympics Summer State Games the weekend of June 12-14 at Bloomington. The games will have more than 4,000 athletes and Unified Partners competing in six different sports. The Summer Games are held at Illinois State University in Normal and the Illinois Wesleyan University campus in Bloomington. A variety of activities are provided for the participants in addition to the sports competitions.
The public is invited to come and encourage Effingham County Special Olympians at the Torch Run along with rooting them on at the Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games.
