Altamont will be observing Memorial Day on Monday.
The Altamont Masonic Lodge is sponsoring the events, which will include the annual parade. Lineup will begin at 9am at Altamont Community High School and the parade will step off at 10am. The procession will travel west on Division Street to Main Street and then north to Union Cemetery.
The Altamont VFW Post will host the Memorial Day observance at the cemetery, which will begin at the conclusion of the parade, sometime around 10:30am. Our own Greg Sapp will serve as the guest speaker. There will also be a display of military equipment at Stuckemeyer Auction House at the intersection of Route 40 and Division Street on the east edge of Altamont.
In case of rain, the ceremony will be relocated to the gym at Altamont Community High School.
A lunch will follow the ceremony at the Altamont VFW Post Home on Route 40.
Effingham's annual Memorial Day observance will again take place at Oakridge Cemetery.
The ceremony will begin at 10:30am at the Veterans Memorial at the cemetery. Effingham American Legion Post #120 will serve as the host organization.
Once the ceremony is concluded, it will be repeated at Woodlawn Cemetery.
In case of rain, all events will take place in the Legion Home along Washington Avenue in downtown Effingham.
