The Effingham Park District will be sponsoring a baseball league this summer for children with disabilities. The program will provide the full benefit of little league participation in an athletic environment structured to the needs of the children with disabilities. We will use the same equipment, have t-shirts and will be playing on an athletic field. Players either hit from a tee or swing at a pitched ball.

A buddy system will be in place for all players. We will team up the player with a volunteer who provides help where needed during the game. Ultimately the children participating in the program will get to experience the joy of teamwork, the thrill of the crowd cheering him or her towards home plate and the pride that comes from earning awards for a job well done.

A child with a physical or mental disability starting at the age of 5 who cannot safely or successfully participate in the traditional little league programs are eligible to participate.

Games are scheduled for Tuesday evenings between 6:00 and 10:00 with a rotating schedule for 6 weeks. The first game is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, at the Gene A. Niccum Field.

Cost of this program has been covered by the generous contributions given to the program from the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus. Registration for this program is a must for participation. If you
have any questions please contact the Effingham Park District, 342-4415, registration is also available on line at effinghamparkdistrict. org.
