Meet Hayden Apke, son of Stacey and Ryan Apke. Hayden is a local 7 year old boy who has been fighting an undiagnosed disease since birth. He struggles daily with fluid on all of his joints that builds up until he has to undergo a procedure to drain the excess fluid from his body. Until a solution is found, Hayden must undergo this treatment every 3-4 months. His heart also has fluid around it, and he has already overcome congestive heart failure twice in his young life. Hayden is getting weaker by the day, due to this fluid increase. He has limited mobility, and impaired range of motion. As you can imagine, this is incredibly difficult for a seven-year-old boy who would love to be healthy and active. He suffers from such pain, but remains a very positive and happy young man. Doctors now believe that Hayden has a rare disease called Camptodactyly Arthropathy Coxa Vara Pericarditis Syndrome. It is a rare gene mutation that causes the chromosome to not produce the protein lubricant he needs in his body, causing him to fill up with fluid. It is not inflamed; therefore, anti- inflammatory medicine will not help. On March 28, 2015 Benefit Hands is proud to host a benefit at the Elementary and High School in Beecher City, Illinois. The money raised is to help with Hayden's medical bills, and will help the family afford to consult with specialists for this rare disease in Boston and Canada. The community has stepped up in a big way, providing over $10,000.00 in donations to be raffled and auctioned at the benefit. We are now asking for your assistance to get the word out. We want to fill the schools on Hayden's behalf. Below is a schedule of events we have planned for Hayden's day. This is a family event, and we have activities for everyone. The kids will love power wheel racing, a bounce house, face painting, professional "FUN" photo sessions, and more. Mario, from the Mario Bros. game will be in attendance!
