Heartland Human Services, Effingham County's behavioral health center, reminds you of the upcoming "Out of the Darkness" Community Walk to raise awareness around suicide issues. Heartland will team up with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to bring this walk to Effingham.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) coordinates similar walks nationwide to raise money for vital research and education programs to help the general public improve their understanding of suicide and ways to prevent it. The walks are organized to increase community awareness around the topics of depression and suicide, while providing a support network for those who have experienced loss.
This year's walk will be held Saturday, September 27 at Evergreen Hollow Park in Effingham. Registration starts at 9:00AM and the walk commences at 10:00AM. More information about the community walk can be had by contacting Ula Hynds at Heartland Human Services at 217-347-7179 extension 1039.
