The summer series of the Four Seasons Gardening program, from University of Illinois Extension, concludes with a session titled Mosquitoes and West Nile Virus.

The program is offered on Tuesday, July 22 at 1:30 p.m. and will be presented via computer at the University of Illinois Extension office in Effingham. Control northern house mosquito in your neighborhood, and you control West Nile Virus. The annual threat of West Nile Virus builds in early summer and continues into the fall. The number of cases has been higher during the last two summers, with about a dozen human deaths in Illinois each of those years. Phil Nixon, University of Illinois Extension Entomologist, will discuss how to control and cope with northern house mosquitoes, floodwater mosquitoes, and other mosquitoes to protect yourself and your community from bites and disease. The presentation will be presented via the University of Illinois distance learning system and local computer PowerPoint presentations, allowing live discussion between the presenter and gardeners throughout Illinois.

Sessions are FREE to attend. Advance registration is needed. Phone or email the local U of I Extension office for more details or to register, 217-347-7773, dirks@illinois.edu. The fall series of the Four Seasons Gardening program will begin on September 9.
