Traveling overseas on mission trips is a growing trend in the Effingham area. In order to help more people learn about these experiences and available opportunities, Helen Matthes Library will be holding a Travel with a Purpose Open House on Saturday, March 22 from 10:00 a. m. to 1:00 p. m.
Local mission trip specialists such as Carol Toney, Jill Jones and Debby Sefton as well as groups such as Feed the Crave will be on hand to answer questions about trips they've taken and plan to take in the future.
Groups offering secular "voluntourism" opportunities will also be on hand.
According to Joanna Davies, Information Desk Assistant at Helen Matthes Library, the purpose for this unique program is to create an opportunity for people interested in short-term volunteer work in other countries to learn more about the types of trips and destinations available to them.
"As the library continues to promote lifelong learning experiences, we wanted to provide a place for people who are interested in going abroad to help others chat with those who have," Davies explained.
