South Central Elementary will have a free screening clinic for children from birth to five years of age Thursday, March 20 from 1-6:30 p.m. The clinic includes checks of infant-toddler language development, motor coordination and social skills. Preschool-aged children also are screened for pre-academic skills, vision and hearing. The screenings take approximately 30 minutes and parents are provided with immediate feedback about their children's performance as well as information about services for which their children may qualify. Early intervention, speech-language therapy, prekindergarten, Head Start and Early Childhood special education programs are all available free of charge to eligible children.
Pre-registration and screening of kindergarten students for the 2014-15 school year will be held Friday, March 28 from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at South Central Elemetnary School in Kinmundy. To be eligible for kindergarten, a child must be five years old on or before September 1, 2014. Parents or legal guardians must bring a copy of the child's certified birth certificate, immunizations record and social security number on the pre-registration day. Each student entering kindergarten must have a physical exxmination and the required immunizations completed prior to entrance the first day of school. If unable to attend, call the school at 547-7696 so an accurate count can be made to order sufficient supplies for next year.
