PAVE will be hosting a Community Breakfast at the Wright Family Center in Dieterich to raise awareness about PAVE, recruit volunteers, and inform patrons about the wonderful work that is going on throughout Effingham County.

Through PAVE (Promoting a Vision for Effingham County), we have many dedicated volunteers working towards a 20 year vision of making Effingham County the best place to live, work, and thrive. Featured Speaker:  Seth Bohnhoff

Seth joined the WCIA 3 family on June 1st of 2022 as an intern in the weather department.  He was trained primarily by former WCIA 3 meteorologist Jack Gerfen, who taught him the basics of being a TV meteorologist and familiarized him with the day-to-day work at the station.  Later that summer, Jack accepted an offer to become a Chief Meteorologist at a station in Oklahoma City, which left a spot open at WCIA 3.  Despite still having 1 more additional year of college to complete to get his bachelor’s degree, Seth applied for the opening and was hired on as a part-time member of the weather team in August of 2022 and eventually a full-time meteorologist after graduation in May of 2023, a position he has held since.

Seth grew up in the WCIA 3 viewing area, as he was born and raised in Dieterich, IL, a small town of less than 1,000 people in the southeast corner of Effingham County.  Growing up, he witnessed the wide variety of weather that Illinois has to offer.  When he was just 6 years old, his neighbor’s house was hit by a tornado, and this made him quite afraid of weather for a while!  Over time however, that fear turned into a curiosity, and almost everybody in the town of Dieterich knew that Seth had wanted to be a meteorologist since he was an elementary school student.

Seth graduated as Valedictorian of the Dieterich High School Class of 2019, then went on to obtain an Associate’s Degree in Environmental Sciences from Lake Land College (Mattoon, IL) in 2021 and a Bachelor’s Degree in Meteorology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2023.

When he’s not hard at work monitoring the weather in the area, Seth has a variety of hobbies to enjoy. He enjoys spending time with his fiancé Callie (soon to be wife in 2024), rooting on his favorite professional sports teams, which include the Chicago Cubs, Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, and the St. Louis Blues, and his favorite college team, The Fighting Illini! Seth is also an avid gamer, and he often makes time to hop on Xbox and play games such as Rocket League, NBA 2k, and Halo.
