Local Sports Calendar

The 59th Annual Altamont Schuetzenfest, one of the longest running German festivals in the State of Illinois, starts Friday, September 27th at 5:00pm at the Effingham County Fairgrounds.  There is a 5 dollar entry fee. It's free entry for anyone who dresses up in German attire, i.e. Lederhosen and Dirndls

1.  German styled food and drinks by Donnewalds, Koerners, and Barn and Bottle Winery served all day.

2.  Hip Huggers band to perform from 7 - 11pm

3.  Stein Hoist Competition, 10 dollar entry fee.

Saturday September, 28th

1.  Schuetzenfest Clay Shooting Competition at Sportmans Club in Effingham.  Registration starts at 8am.  50 dollars a person.  Prizes awarded to male and female categories for the top 3 in both.  Lunch available for purchase.

2.  American Legion Post 420 Car Show.  Registration from 9 - 11 am.  20 dollar entry fee, one class fits all.  Awards at 1:00pm for top three.

3.  Altamont Education Foundation 9th Annual Kickball Double Elimination Tournament.  Registration starts at 9:30.  10 players a team which must include two players of opposite gender.  Includes t-shirt and prize money for 1st and 2nd place.  Contact Mike Walker at 217-821-3382.

4.  The Mason Dixies (polka band) to play from 12 - 4pm.

5.  King and Queen Coronation from 7 - 8pm.  Must be a Schuetzenfest member to vote (membership costs 7 dollars).

6.  Bryor Rhodes Band to play from 8pm - midnight.

7.  Stein Hoist competition.  10 dollar entry fee.
