COLES COUNTY BARBERSHOP CHORUS ANNUAL CHRISTMAS BENEFIT CONCERT

Sunday December 3rd at 3PM

For more than 30 years, the Coles County Barbershop Chorus with quartets and ensembles have presented their annual one-hour concert.  This year it will be held at the Wesley United Methodist Church - 2206 4th Street in Charleston at 3PM on December 3rd.

The chorus began 53 years ago and singers live in 18 different communities within a 50-mile area: Altamont, Arcola, Arthur, Atwood, Brockton, Charleston, Champaign, Effingham, Hindsboro, Mattoon, Mt. Zion, Newton, Oakland, Paris, Tuscola, Shelbyville, Strasburg and Sullivan.

There is no cost to attend, but a free-will offering is collected…each year more than $8,000 is provided for area homeless shelters and food pantry programs funded by these community outreach events.

The first half of the program features secular songs, such as Christmas Island, White Christmas, Jingle Bell Rock, etc. while the last portion is of a more spiritual nature:  Angels We Have Heard On High, Silent Night, and Mary Did You Know.

A feature this year will be the World Drum Corp Club from the Jefferson Elementary School in Charleston.  They have accompanied the CCC in years gone by and add a new twist to the music.
