System Development Services (SDS) and Effingham Public Library are partnering to offer two computer classes for the public and small business owners in October. Every day almost all of our lives are touched by some interaction with the internet. Due to this and the growing security needs in both the public and private sectors the US Department of Homeland Security named October as National Cyber Security Awareness Month. On Thursday, October 5 at Noon SDS technicians will outline some simple steps for online safety that will help computer users protect themselves against security concerns and cybercrime. They will demonstrate ways to back-up important information to make sure it stays safe and is always available. Technicians will also present tips to help with workplace security benefitting organizations and businesses of all sizes. This class will take place in the Bauer Computer Lab. The second class will cover PC Clean Up and take place on Thursday, October 26 again at Noon in the Bauer Computer Lab. SDS Computer Technicians will walk users through several free and readily available programs that any everyday computer users can install and use to help keep their computers working their best. These programs will target Adware, Malware, and Temp Files that clog up systems and slow down laptops and PCs. They will also show users other valuable tips and tools to keep your system running at peak performance. There will be handouts covering the information supplied and we ask participants not to bring their laptops. Each class will last one hour. Space is limited. Registration is required for both these free programs. To register go the Library’s website at www.effinghamlibrary.org or call the library at 217-342-2464 x1, email info@effinghamlibrary.org |
