Students With DIabetes Program Offered

On Thursday, August 10, HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital’s Clinical Nutrition Services is offering a free training program for area school staff members that have students with diabetes called, “Helping the Student with Diabetes Succeed in School.”  The training will be conducted from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Diabetes and Nutrition Education Center in the lower level of the St. Anthony’s Convenient Care Building located at 801 West Temple in Effingham.

The training will be presented by Adrienne Jarrell, MS, RD, Certified Diabetes Educator at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. The topics she will cover include:

  • Management of Hypoglycemia and Hyperglycemia
  • Glucagon injections
  • Basic Carbohydrate Counting
  • Overview of Blood Sugar Monitoring
  • Physical Activity
