Please join the members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Strasburg as they celebrate their church's 150th anniversary with a second celebration on Sunday, July 31. The 9 a.m. Sunday School hour will focus on history of the congregation. The 10 a.m. worship service will be conducted by guest preachers, Reverend Dwayne Lueck and his nephew Reverend Chad Lueck. Pastor Dwayne is the son of the late Reverend Gilmore A. Lueck and Pastor Chad is his grandson. Pastor Gilmore Lueck served St. Paul's congregation from May of 1946 until his death on May 17, 1959, at age 44. He was instrumental in the building of the present day church, overseeing its construction during 1953-1954.
A panoramic church picture of all members will be taken immediately after the worship service, followed by a balloon launch. An old fashioned picnic will take place behind the church served from the picnic stand, reminiscent of days gone by. For a small fee, members and guests can enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, pork burgers and all the fixins' while the young folks can enjoy children's games. A beautiful quilt pieced by Shirley Stremming and Beulah Ulmer and quilted by Shirley, Beulah, and Patsy Lenz with stitches from additional ladies of St. Paul's will be on display and raffle tickets will be sold. Also, the 150th Anniversary Cookbook with recipes from members and their family along with St. Paul's memorabilia will be for sale. In the afternoon at 1 p.m. former St. Paul's Lutheran School classmates and other church members will be on stage to perform "Medicare Center", a play written by former teacher, the late Mr. John Neunaber. After the play, guests will continue to be entertained by the gospel quartet "Eagle's Wings".
