EHS, St. Anthony Fall By Same 159-160 Count; Area Golf Roundup

Effingham and Effingham St. Anthony boys golf teams fell by the same 159-160 counts against two different opponents Monday afternoon.
Effingham lost to Mattoon 159-160 at the Effingham Country Club. The Hearts drop to 1-1 while Mattoon is unbeaten at 6-0.
Jackson Wendling was medalist for the Hearts with a 36. Also scoring were Jake Linders 40, Callaway Smith 42 and Sean Sandifer 42. Non-scorers were Reed Schafer 42, Brandon Dahnke 42, Michael Woltman 55 and Matt Linders 57.
Mattoon was leld by A.J. Diepholz 37, Luke Miller 40, Jackson Berg 41 and Carter Price 41. Non-scorers were Luke Owen 41, Corey Godden 43 and Austin Warren 44.
"This was a great match for us tonight," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "Mattoon has a very good team. Jackson played another great nine holes of golf to lead us. We were very consistent and got some good play from Reed and Brandon. Brandon had his lowest nine hole round. We just needed one more stroke."
At Robinson
Effingham St. Anthony dropped a 159-160 decision to host Robinson at Quail Creek Country Club. Medalist was Robinson's Tom Goodman with a 36.
Also scoring for the Maroons were James Gibson 40, Alex Brown 41 and Tristan Murphy 42. Non-scorers were Connor Weber 55 and Jeff Darnold 61.
St. Anthony was led by Garrett Hixenbaugh with a 37. Also scoring were Jared Hutchison 39, Nick Wortman 41 and Sam Wortman 43. Non-scorers were Jeff Niebrugge 47 and Connor Greene 48.
At Flora
The St. Anthony junior varsity boys squad dropped a loss to host Flora 165-185. Flora's J. Gassolini and R. Cassolini were co-medalists with a 39 each. Also scoring were Z. Allison 42 and N. Trotter 45. Non-scorers were C. Kitley 52 and D. Woodward 53.
Scoring for St. Anthony were Nate Schmidt 41, Kyle Britton 45, Mitchell Sager 49 and Gus Koester 50. Non-scorers were Jacob Schmidt 50, Niko Dust 52, Ethan Greene 52 and Trey Koester 60.
In girls varsity action at the Flora Country Club course, no team score was kept due to number of girls competing. St. Anthony's Kyla Burton had a 51 followed by Maddie Schuette 61, Abby Ellis 71 and Sam Brandenburger 76.
Playing for Flora were G. Williams 46, K. Tanner 58 and J. Lieb 60.
At Windsor
Teutopolis tied a school team score record for an individual match with a 160-214 victory over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg.
T-town's Chad Zerrusen and Neoga's Luke Baker were co-medalists for the event with a 38 each.
Also scoring for the Wooden Shoes were Ryan Sandschafer 40, Kyle Brumleve 41 and Justin Kowalski 41. Non-scorers were Christian Deters 45 and Brayden Bushue 53.
Scoring for Windsor/Stew-Stras were Katie Greuel 46, Spencer Blackburn 50, Zach VanHyfte 54, Luke Gilbert 64 and Anthony Curry 79.
T-town is now 6-5 overall.
At Salem
Salem nabbed a three-team girls meet with 189 strokes followed by Mattoon 206 and Teutopolis 235.
Salem's Megan Gallotine was medalist with a 42 followed by Morgan Thompson 48, Mallory Graels 49 and Hailey Gallotin 50. Non-scoring was Emily Baer with a 64.
Teutopolis was led by Casey Willenberg 54, Katie Thoele 58, Ellie Ruholl 61 and Haley Giles 62. Non-scorer was Lea Thoele 78.
Mattoon was led by Lauren Spain 48, Katie Holsapple 51, Alexis Dean 53 and Taylor Beason 54. Non-counting score was Whitney Meakes 63.
