Effingham St. Anthony High School claimed second place at the Kankakee Bishop McNamara Irish Boys Golf Invitational Saturday.

Providence claimed the championship with a 305 total followed by St. Anthony 324, Brother Rice 334, St. Ignatius 342, St. Lawrence 342, St. Rita 343, Chicago Mount Carmel 346, Braidwood Reed Custer 347, Chicago Fenwick 354, Bishop McNamara 379 and Chicago De La Salle 400.

Medalist was M. Brick from Providence with a 72. Scoring for the Bulldogs were Connor Greene 40-38 -- 78 who finished fifth and Garrett Hixenbaugh 40-38 -- 78 who finished sixth, Jeff Niebrugge 43-38 -- 81 and Gus Koester 42-45 -- 87. Non-scorers were Jared Hutchison 44-47 -- 91 and Sam Wortman 43-48 -- 91.

"It's always nice to play different schools, especially from the Chicago area," said Coach Phil Zaccari. "Garrett and Connor continued their steady play and it was really good to see sophomore Jeff Niebrugge step in with a good score. That really helped us.

"Also a big thank you to Mr. Craig Brummer as he was able to cover for me since I had a family commitment this weekend."
