Bulldogs Send Girls Team To State Golf Meet, EHS, T-town Qualify Individuals

Effingham St. Anthony claimed second place at the Class 1A Effingham Girls Golf Sectional Monday to advance as a team to State while Effingham and Teutopolis will be sending individuals.

Mount Carmel won the sectional with 287 followed by St. Anthony 348, Metropolis Massac County 365, Monticello 375, Salem 376, Effingham 378, Sullivan 389, Champaign St. Thomas More 400, Charleston 402, Clinton 415, Carmi-White County 436 and Arcola 445.

Mount Carmel's Miley Kennard, a junior, was medalist with a 66. The Golden Aces claimed the top three spots and played all five golfers in the top six.

St. Anthony's Addie Krouse, a senior, was fourth with a 76. Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Brooklyn Phillips, a sophomore, with an 87, Tesa Ludwig, a freshman, with an 89 and Adria Moberly, a freshman, with a 96. Others competing were senior Mia Schwing 97 and sophomore Gianna Frisbie 98.

The top three teams advance along with the top 10 individuals, not members of those teams. Along with St. Anthony and Mount Carmel will be Metropolis Massac County.

Effingham's Ella Tuman, a junior, finished with an 89 and advances as an individual. Also advancing were Teutopolis' Molly Habing, a junior, with an 86 and Brileigh Bloemer, a junior, with an 88.

Other individuals advancing were Mya Russell (Salem), Josie Welch (Johnston City), Macy Printy (Monticello), Shaelyn Ellis (Sullivan), Alex Clayton (Charleston), Jaryn Haarmann (Salem) and Ella Schweighart (Villa Grove).

The Class 1A State Tournament will be held Friday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Oct. 19 at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur.
