Both City Teams Win Boys Golf Regionals, T-town, Newton, WSS Advance Individuals

Effingham St. Anthony claimed the championship of its own Class 1A Regional.
There's some good golf being played right here in Effingham.
Both Effingham St. Anthony and Effingham high schools won their respective boys golf regional titles Wednesday.
The Bulldogs hosted Class 1A action at the Effingham Country Club and claimed the top spot with a 291 total followed by Teutopolis 312, Carmi-White County 337, Newton 347, Edwards County (Albion) 349, McLeansboro Hamilton County 359, Oblong 360, Flora 369, Fairfield 373, Norris City-Omaha-Enfield 375 and North Clay (Louisville) 461.
Just down the road, Teutopolis High School's Isaac Weber, a sophomore, shot a 71 to earn medalist honors for the event.
The Bulldogs took the next three spots and placed five of their six players in the top eight. Scoring for St. Anthony were Dakota Flaig 72, Jack Swingler 72, Joey Trupiano 72 and Maddux Clark 75. The rest of Coach Phil Zaccari's team were Alec Hakman 77 and Ryan Schmidt 90.
Also scoring for Teutopolis, along with Weber, were Coen Pennington 73, Colin Habing 83 and Hayden Tebbe 85. Others competing were Brody Thoele 88 and Nolan Schumacher 91.
The top three teams advance to the Zeigler Royalton Sectional at the Franklin County Country Club Monday, October 7 and those included St. Anthony, Teutopolis and Carmi-White County.
The top 10 individuals, not members of qualifying teams, also advance. Among those are Newton's Gunner James, a senior, who shot an 82 and Jack James, a freshman, who shot 87.
Other individuals advancing included Carson Musgrave (Oblong), Avery Gardner (Fairfield), Trevor Millenbine (McLeansboro Hamilton County), Jex Schnepper (Edwards County, Albion), Andrew Puckett (Flora), Ethan Kessler (McLeansboro Hamilton County), Hagen Howard (Cisne) and Riley Blank (Oblong).
Others competing for Newton were Michael Kennedy 89, Grant Fulton 89, Evan Johnson 93 and Blanie Bergbower 109.
Riley Poe led North Clay with a 93. Others competing for the Cardinals were Brodie Adair 117, Hunter Czyzewski 120 and Jacob Arnold 131.
Effingham captured the championship of the Class 2A Mattoon Regional.
At Mattoon
Effingham High School captured the championship of the Class 2A Mattoon Regional at Meadowview Golf Course Wednesday.
The Hearts had golfers finish first and second and placed three in the top 10. Max Seachrist, a senior, was medalist for the Hearts with a 70. Jude Traub, a sophomore, was second with a 70. Leo Wyckoff, also a sophomore, took ninth with an 81. Finishing out the scoring was junior Cannon Bockhon 18th with an 87.
Others competing for the Hearts included Rayden Schneider 89 and Brody Boehm 89.
The Hearts placed first as the top three teams advance. Also heading to sectional action are Charleston and Mattoon. Also the top 10 individuals, not members of the top three teams, advance.
Altamont had a team competing and the squad finished with a 398 total for 10th place.
Hayden Summers was the top finisher for the Indians with a 92. Also taking part were Tyler Ruffner 100, Joel Bauer 102, Evan Elam 104 and Charlie Goeckner 117.
Other individuals advancing were Ayden Nealis (Richland County, Olney), Kollin Kelsey (Mount Carmel), Canton Wesch (Arcola), Reese Glover (Richland County, Olney), Nox Gray (Lawrenceville), Hatcher Kanipe (Mount Carmel), Drake Stevenson (Mount Carmel), Carsyn Ameter (Richland County, Olney), Kody Burdick (Arcola) and Hudson Meek (Lawrenceville).
Effingham will play host to the sectional Monday, October 7 at the Effingham Country Club.
At Moweaqua
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg had five players competing at the Class 1A Moweaqua Central A&M Regional.
LeRoy won the team title with 310 followed by Virden North Mac 334, Pana 336, Moweaqua Central A&M 337, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 344, Auburn 346, Macon Meridian 356, Sullivan 357, Bethany Okaw Valley 366, Farmer City Blue Ridge 370, Shelbyville 376 and Springfield Lutheran 449.
LeRoy, Virden North Mac and Pana advance as teams.
The top 10 individuals advance and two Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg golfers moved into sectional play. Jacob Vonderheide who finshed ninth with an 81, and Rylan Rincker who finished 10th, also with an 81.
Others competing for WSS were Andrew Petzing 91, Blake Owens 91, Ross McCormick 95 and Jack Holland 105.
Those advancing will compete in the Quincy Notre Dame Sectional at Spring Lake Country Club Monday, October 7.
