EHS Boys Win Charleston Golf Invite, St. A Claims Althoff Crusader Classic

Effingham High School won the Charleston Boys Golf Invitational.

Effingham High School claimed the championship of the Charleston Boys Golf Invitational Monday.

The Hearts tallied a 293 followed by Charleston 310, St. Anthony Junior Varsity 318, Mattoon 323, Richland County, Olney 339, Arcola 361 and Paris 407.

Medalist for the event was Effingham's Cannon Bockhorn with a 70. He shot a 33 on the front nine and finished with a 37 on the back nine.

Also scoring for the Hearts were second place Leo Wyckoff with a 35-36 -- 71, fourth place Jude Traub with a 36-38 -- 74 and 10th place Max Seachrist with a 40-38 -- 78. Others competing for the Hearts were Rayden Schneider with a 37-43 -- 80 and Brody Boehm with a 42-40 -- 82.

"The boys shot what I believe to be the school record 293 to win the invitational," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer.

Finishing third was Effingham St. Anthony with a 318 tally. Scoring for the Bulldogs were Drake Brown seventh with a 37-39 -- 76, Manaye Mossman eighth with a 37-39 -- 76, Ethan Karolewicz 42-41 -- 83 and Joey C. Trupiano 42-41 -- 83.

 

At St. Clair Country Club

The other part of the St. Anthony High School golf team competed at the Belleville Althoff Crusader Classic Monday.

The Bulldogs won the championship with a 289. Joey Trupiano captured first place with a medalist 35-30 -- 65 score. Jack Swingler finished fourth with a 32-38 -- 70. Alec Hakman was 14th with a 37-39 -- 76 and completing the scoring was Ryan Schmidt with a 39-39 -- 78.

Also competing for the Bulldogs were Dakota Flaig 40-40 -- 80 and Maddux Clark 44-37 -- 81.

St. Anthony was followed in the team standings by Edwardsville 297, O'Fallon 304, Collinsville 310, Breese Mater Dei 310, Belleville West 316, Columbia 320, Alton 321, Mascoutah 322, Marquette 332, Red Bud 336, Edwardsville 338, Freeburg 342, Belleville Althoff Catholic 343, Father McGivney 356, Granite City 363 and Metro East Lutheran 355.

The Bulldogs junior varsity squad competed in a regular season match hosting Tuscola at the Effingham Country Club and was a 171-200 winner.

Jameson McAllaster was the medalist with a 40 followed by Adnrew Meyer 42, Cole Adams 44 and Gabe Hebner 45. Non-counters were Keegan Overbeck 48 and Daniel Ramos 58.

Scoring for Tuscola were Ryker Gough 48, Evan Englehardt 50, Jacob Waugh 51 and Carson Gaines 51. Others competing were Aiden Devlin 52 and Brix Smith 59.

 

At Effingham

The Effingham St. Anthony girls golf team played host to Tuscola Monday at the Effingham Country Club.

There was no team score kept as Tuscola had only three girls competing.

St. Anthony's Gianna Frisbie was medalist with a 40. Also competing were Brooklyn Phllips 41, Addie Krouse 42, Mia Schwing 43, Tesa Ludwig 43 and Adria Moberly 46.

The girls start regional play today. St. Anthony is the regional host at the Effingham Country Club. Also competing will be Effingham, Altamont, North Clay (Louisvile), Newton, Teutopolis, Fairfield, Oblong Co-op, Richland County, Olney, Ramsey Co-op, Robinson, Salem, Sandoval Co-op, Vandalia, Waltonville Co-op and Woodlawn.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg will be taking part  in the Tuscola Regional at the Ironhorse Golf Club today.

 

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis celebrated Senior Night with a 161-199 victory over Sullivan Monday.

Coen Pennington was medalist with a 37 for the Wooden Shoes. Also scoring were Brody Thoele 41, Colin Habing 41 and Isaac Weber 42. Others competing were Hayden Tebbe 42, Noah Koester 44, Landyn Thoele 44, Drew Hoene 47, Will Lewis 47, Nolan Schumacher 48, Owen Kremer 48, Owen Heuerman 52 and Liam Collins 58.

The Shoes finish the dual season with a 5-2 record.

"Thanks for seniors Cole Gibson, Liam Collins, Owen Heuerman, Will Lewis, Brody Thoele, Colin Habing, Noah Koester and Drew Hoene," said T-town Coach Mike Wilson.

The Teutopolis girls were also winners over Sullivan by a 185-194 count to finish at 6-3 on the season.

Co-medalists were T-town's Halle Bushue 42 and Sullivan's Shae Ellis also with a 42.

Also scoring for the Wooden Shoes were Molly Habing 44, Brooke Thoele 49 and Brileigh Bloemer 50. Others competing were Josie Willenberg 52, Olivia Wermert 56 and Sophia Martin 50.

Scoring for Sullivan were Ellis, Kate Bushue 49, Devan Richardson 50 and Taylor Mercer 53. Non-counters were Claire Welch 55 and Joanna Rickelman 70.

"This was our final regular season match," said T-town Coach Shannon Hinkle. "We had one team forfeit on us last week, one team cancel on us and a big rainout 18-hole. Not the way we wanted to finish our season but we are looking forward to regionals."

The girls will be competing today at the Effingham Country Club in the Class 1A Effingham St. Anthony Regional.

 

At Fairfield

North Clay boys and girls compete but there are not enough for a team score.

North Clay's Kennedy Jones was medalist for the girls match with a 41. Also competing was Mackenzie Winterrowd with a 55.

Taking part for the boys were Riley Poe 40, Jacob Arnold 48 and Hunter Czyzewski 49.
