St. Anthony Wins Jon Macek Invite, Area Golf Roundup

SAVOY -- Effingham St. Anthony captured the Jon Macek Boys Golf Invitational at the University of Blue Golf Course Tuesday.

The Bulldogs scored 289 followed by Charleston 296, Monticello 303, Mattoon 309, Teutopolis 317, Central 320, Centennial 352, St. Thomas More 355 and Sullivan 357. Urbana had players but not enough for a team score.

Charleston High School's Alex Kuykendall and Monticello's Madoux Quick were co-medalists for the event with a 69 each.

St. Anthony's Ryan Schmidt was third with a 36-34 -- 70 followed by teammate Joey B. Trupiano fourth with a 34-37 -- 71. Maddux Clark took sixth with a 38-35 -- 73 and Dakota Flaig rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs with an 11th place finish and a 38-37 -- 75.

Also competing for the Bulldogs were Jack Swingler with a 39-37 -- 76 and Ethan Karolewicz with a 37-40 -- 79.

Also in the top 10 were Lucas Henderson (Urbana) fifth with a 73, Maddon Johnson of Mattoon seventh with a 74, Hudson Meister of Charleston eighth with a 74, Jeremy McCoy of Central ninth with a 75 and Dylan Bell of Charleston 10th with a 75.

Scoring for Teutopolis, who also competed at the invitational and finished fifth as a team, were Coen Pennington 76, Isaac Weber 80, Nolan Schumacher 80, Colin Habing 81, Brody Thoele 84 and Drew Hoene 89.

The Wooden Shoes also competed at Pana and dropped the match by a 159-164 tally. Hayden Tebbe had a 39, Kade Pennington 40, Andy Lustig 42, Noah Koester 43, Matthew Habing 43, Landyn Thoele 47, Owen Kremer 47 and Owen Heuerman 47.

 

At Oblong

In the Oblong Invitatonal at Oak Glen Golf Course, Altamont competed in boys and girls action.

Oblong won the boys meet with a 174 followed by Altamont 188 and Tri-County 238.

Scores for Altamont were Hayden Summers 42, Tyler Ruffner 44, Evan Elam 48, Alex Walker 54. Kamryn Wolfert 56, Charlie Goeckner 57 and Cooper Hankins 59.

Oblong also captured the girls meet with 213 followed by Altamont 225.

Scores for the girls were Sophia Pearcy 50 who tied for match medalist runnerup, Gabriella Weishaar 56, Cecilia Pearcy 57 and Emma Sphar 62.

 

At Salem

In girls golf, Salem was a 176-186 winner over visiting Effingham Tuesday.

Salem's Mya Russel was medalist with a 35. Also scoring for the Wildcats were Kiley Vieira 46, Reagan Shuler 47 and Joryn Haarmann 48. Non-counters were Kylie Johnson 54 and  Brenna Hays 56.

Scoring for the Hearts were Ella Tuman and Makenna Mayhood with a 43 each, Natalie Armstrong 48 and Allison Kroenlein 52. Non-counters were Grace Harper 53 and Mya Harvey 55.

Extra players for the Hearts included Kylie Pryor 43, Addi Ruiz 54, Ella Macklin 66 and Hannah Buckman 69.

 

At Champaign

Effingham St. Anthony girls competed and won over Champaign St. Thomas More Tuesday, 174-193.

The Bulldogs' Addi Krouse was medalist with a 39. Also scoring for St. Anthony were Tess Ludwig 44, Brooklyn Philips 45 and Gianna Frisbee 46. Non-counters were Adria Moberty 47 and Mia Schwing 47.

Scoring for St. Thomas More were Ashley Wells 42, Keagan Markun 48, Elle Klein 50 and Taylor Wells 53. Non-counters were Jenika Biggs 64 and Maggie Klein 67.

 

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis played host to Charleston and edged the Trojans by a 190-192 count Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes' Brileigh Bloemer was medalist with a 42. Also scoring were Halle Bushue 45, Brook Thoele 51 and Molly Habing 52. Non-counters were Josie Willenborg 53, Sophia Martin 55, Olivia Wermert 62 and Madi Deters 68.

Scoring for Charleston were Alex Clayton 44, Macie Babbs 49, Brie Tomlinson 49 and Ella Hinds 50. Non-counting scores were Mia Hinds 54, Morgan Smallhorn 55, Maddie Clark 64 and Lillie Thomas 69.

 

At Flora

North Clay competed at the Clay County Country Club Tuesday.

On the girls team, Kennedy Jones was medalist with a 46 and Mackenzie Winterrowd took second place with a 48.

For the boys, Jacob Arnold had a 41 for his season best and finished fourth while Riley Poe scored a 43 and placed ninth.
