St. Anthony, Newton Boys, EHS Girls Capture Golf Wins

ROBINSON -- Effingham St. Anthony High School was a winner in a boys golf triangular Monday at the Quail Creek Country Club.

 

The Bulldogs tallied a 147 followed by Mount Carmel 172 and Robinson 198.

St. Anthony's Dakota Flaig and Ryan Schmidt were co-medalists with a 36 each. Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Maddux Clark 37 and Joey B. Trupiano 38.

Non-counting scores were Drake Brown 40, Alec Hakman 40, Jack Swingler 41 and Ethan Karolewicz 46.

Scoring for Mount Carmel were Kollin Kelsey 39, Landon Johnson 41, Zane Wilcox 46 and Brayden Rayborn 46. Non-counters were Hatcher Kanaipe and Drake Stevenson 48 each.

Scoring for Robinson were Zach Chamblin 43, Mason Arnone 49, Ben Coonce 50 and Layton Crumrin 56. Non-counters were Ian Schmidt 61 and Collin Zehner 63.

 

At Sullivan

Effingham High School's girls golf squad picked up a quadrangular victory over Sullivan, Charleston and Pana at the Sullivan Country Club Monday.

The Hearts scored 173 followed by Sullivan 196, Charleston 201 and Pana 255.

Co-medalists were Effingham's Ella Tuman and Makenna Mayhood with a 41 each. Also scoring for the Hearts were Allison Kroenlein 44 and Grace Harper 41. Others competing were Natalie Armstrong 47, Mya Harvey 48, Kylie Pryor 46 and Ella Macklin 59.

Sullivan competitors were Shae Ellis 43, Devan Richardson 46, Claire Welch 52, Taylor Mercer 55, Kate Bushue 56 and JoAnna Rickleman 69.

Charleston golfers were Alex Clayton 45, Ella Hinds 49, Macie Babbs 52, Brie Tomlinson 55, Morgan Smallhorn 56 and Mia Hinds 60.

Pana golfers were Brianna Mathis 61, Kaylee Kuhn 61, Lilly Jostes 63, Kaitlin Vaughn 70 and Alyssa Pieper 71.

 

At Casey

Newton captured a three-team boys golf meet Monday at Casey Country Club.

Newton tallied a 160 followed by Casey-Westfield 173 and Altamont 193. North Clay did not have a full team.

Scoring for Altamont were Evan Elam 47, Charlie Goeckner 47, Joel Bauer 49 and Tyler Ruffner 50. Non-counters were Alex Walker 53 and Cooper Hankins 56.

North Clay's two golfers were Riley Poe 45 and Jacob Arnold 54.

In girls play, Altamont finished with a 226. Newton, North Clay and Casey-Westfield did not have full teams.

Scoring for Altamont were Sophia Pearcy 50, Cecilia Pearcy 56, Gabriella Weishar 58 and Emma Sphar 62. Meghan Goeckner shot a 66.

Newton's competittors were Peyton Lindey second with a 45 and Haley Ochs third with a 46.

North Clay had two golfers, Kennedy Jones, who was the medalist with a 44, and Mackenzie Arnold 54.

Newton had four personal bests in the a school match and those included Michael Kennedy, Evan Johnson, Peyton Lindley and Hailey Ochs.

 

At Salem

In a girls golf match, Salem claimed a 167-173 win over Teutopolis Monday.

"The girls fought hard and I am pleased with our scores," said T-town Coach Shannon Hinkle. "Most had not played this course before, so they hung in there. Brooke Thoele had a PR."

The Wooden Shoes were led by Brileigh Bloemer 43, Halle Bushue 43, Molly Habing 43 and Brooke Thoele 44. Other scores were Josie Willenborg 48, Olivia Wermert 59 and Margaret Wente 64.

Salem's Mya Russell was medalist with a 38. Also scoring for the Wildcats were Jaryn Harman 41, Reagan Schuler 42 and Kyliy Johnson 46. Non-counters were Brenna Hayes 47 and Kyley Vieica 50.

 

At Effingham

In a boys junior varsity match at the Effingham Country Club, Effingham St. Anthony was a 168-174 winner over Teutopolis.

Co-medalists were St. Anthony's Manaye  Mossman and Jameson McAllaster with a 40 each. Also scoring were Andrew Meyer 43 and Cole Adams 45. Non-counters were Joey C. Trupiano 47, Keegan Overbeck 47, Daniel Ramos 47 and Gabe Huebner 56.

Scoring for the Wooden Shoes were Andy Lustig 42, Mathew Habing 43, Kade Pennington 44 and Lane Ohnesorge 44. Non-counters were Cole Gibson 45, Ben Sandschafer 46, Owen Heuerman 47 and William Lewis 51.
