St. Anthony, EHS, T-town Compete at Craig Dixon Invite, Area Boys, Girls Golf

MATTOON -- Effingham St. Anthony, Effingham and Teutopolis competed at the Craig Dixon Boys Golf Invitational, hosted by Mattoon, during the weekend.

The two day event featured 31 teams from Classes 1A, 2A and 3A.

The Bulldogs were in third place in Friday action, shooting a 299 but charged back Saturday to shoot a 295 which gave them a two-day total of 594 and the team championship.

St. Anthony was folllowed in the top three by Mount Zion and Edwardsville. The Bulldogs were the only team to break 300 both days.

St.Anthony was led by senior Dakota Flaig who posted a one-under-par 71 on both days for a 142 which tied him for second individually. Junior Maddux Clark also medaled going 74 and 75 for a 149 total to tie for 12th place.

Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Jack Swingler 42-35 -- 77 and 37-38 -- 75 for a 152 total and Ryan Schmidt 37-42 -- 79 and 34-40 -- 74 for a 153.

Others competing for St. Anthony were Joey Trupiano 38-39 -- 77 and 38-39 -- 77 for 154 and Ethan Karolewicz 41-45 -- 86 and 43-42-- 85 for 171.

"We were the only team to break 300 both days," said St. Anthony Coach Phil Zaccari. "Dakota shot a one-under-par 71 both days which tied him for second individually."

Effingham competed and finished with a two-day total of 636.

"It's the lowest score we have ever posted at the Mattoon event," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "We were sitting at 312 after the first day which was a great score. We finished with a 324 the second day."

Leading the Hearts were Max Seachrist with a 81-70 -- 151, Leo Wyckoff 78-80 -- 158, Jude Traub 79-79 -- 158 and Cannon Bockhorn 85-83 -- 168. Others competing were Brody Boehm 84-87 -- 171 and Rayden Schneider 85-91 -- 176.

Medalist for the event was Alton's Sam Ottwell with a one-under-71 and a two-under-70 for a total of 141.

Teutopolis finished ninth with a 324-309 -- 633 total, including a new school record 309 on Saturday.

Scores for the Wooden Shoes were Isaac Weber 75-73, Coen Pennington 78-73, Brody Thoele 86-82, Nolan Schumacher 93-81, Colin Habing 86-85 and Owen Kremer 85-88. weber tied for ninth overall with his 148.

T-town Two finished with a 346-341 -- 685. Landyn Thoele had an 83-86, Kade Pennington 85-89, Hayden Tebbe 88-86, Drew Hoene 90-80, Andy Lustig 92-89, Matthew Habing 96 Friday and Noah Koester 95 Saturday.

 

At Cardinal Golf Course

Effingham claimed a 162-184 victory over Teutopolis in girls golf action at Cardinal Golf Course Saturday.

Medalist honors went to Effingham's Makenna Mayhood and Natalie Armstrong with a 40 each. Also scoring for the Hearts were Ella Tuman 41 and Grace Harper 41. Non-counting scores were Mya Harvey 50 and Kylie Pryor 51. Extra players competing were Allison Kroenlein 44, Ella Macklin 53, Addi Ruiz 56, Ella McCord 62 and Hannah Buckman 66.

Scoring for Teutopolis were Halle Bushue 44, Molly Habing 45, Brileigh Bloemer 46 and Josie Willenborg 49. Non-counters were Olivia Wermert 50, Brooke Thoele 54, Sophia Martin 60, Lucy Bloemer 62 and Mallory Bloemer 63.

Others competing for the Wooden Shoes were Brooke Tipton 53, Megan Blackwell 56, Madi Deters 56, Margaret Wente 60, Adrienne Koester 62, Ellie Hoene 62, Hildi Niemerg 66 and Alyssa Tipton 70.

 

At Lawrenceville

Newton competed in the Lawrenceville Golf Invitational Friday and brought home second place with four of its golfers in the top 10.

Jackson James finished in second with a 76 followed by Michael Kennedy seventh with a 79, Evan Johnson ninth with an 80 and Gunner James 10th with an 80. Grant Fulton had a 90 and Blaine Bergbower 95.
