Effingham High School captured the Class 2A Regional.
Effingham High School won its own Class 2A Boys Golf Regional Wednesday at the Effingham Country Club. It's the third regional title the Hearts have claimed.
Effingham shot a 309 followed by Mattoon 312, Charleston 314, Richland County 328, Mount Carmel 337, Paris 352, Arcola 364, Robinson 365 and Lawrenceville 376.
The Hearts' Max Seachrist, a junior, was medalist with a 66. Also scoring for the Hearts were freshman Jude Traub seventh with a 77, Evan Pryor, a senior, 18th with an 82 and junior Rayden Schneider 21st with an 84.
Non-counters for the Hearts were sophomore Cannon Bockhorn 26th with an 85 and freshman Leo Wyckoff 32nd with an 89.
"Max fired an incredible six-under-par 66 which is the lowest score that can be verified at Effingham," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "To top things off, we were trailing Mattoon by one stroke when Evan Pryor had a hole-in-one on No. 16, a 180 yard par three. That really gave us some momentum.
"We also got solid play from Jude who has given us that solid No. 2 score all year. Rayden, Leo and Cannon all came up huge for us.
"No team ever led by more than two strokes all day, until the very last hole. Congratulations to Charleston and Mattoon for also qualifying for the sectional."
Also advancing as a team were Mattoon and Charleston.
Individuals, not members of qualifying teams, advancing were Reese Glove (Richland County) 76, Nathan Rich (Robinson) 76, Ayden Nealis (Richland County) 77, Canton Wesch (Arcola) 79, Kollin Kelsey (Mount Carmel) 80, Parker Underwood (Paris) 81, Carter Davis (Lawrenceville) 83, Landon Johnson (Mount Carmel) 84, Levi Beesley (Mount Carmel) 85 and Drake Bartos (Paris) 85.
The top three teams and individuals head to the Class 2A Mount Carmel Sectional at West Berwick Golf Club Monday.
EHS' Max Sechrist was medalist for the sectional with a 66.
Effingham's Evan Pryor scored a hole-in-one on No. 16, a 180 yard par three.
