EHS Finishes Second In Girls, Fifth In Boys Apollo Conference Golf Meets

MOWEAQUA -- Effingham High School captured second place in the Apollo Conference Girls Golf Tournament at the Moweaqua Golf Club Monday.

Winning the tourney was Mattoon with 360 strokes followed just a stroke back at 361 by Effingham. The top two were followed by Mahomet-Seymour 379, Charleston 390, Mount Zion 409 and Taylorville 489.

Medalist was Mattoon's Blair Powers with a 74.

The Hearts competing were Elena Niebrugge with an 85, Ella Tuman 89, Grace Harper 92, Makenna Mayhood 95, Natalie Armstrong 98 and Mya Harvey 109.

Niebrugge, Tuman and Harper were named All-Apollo Conference along with Mattoon's Powers and Morton, Mahomet-Seymour's Park and Hartman and Mount Zion's Graves.

In the boys meet, Charleston won with 308 followed by Mahomet-Seymour 315, Mount Zion 323, Mattoon 325 and Effingham 336.

Charleston's Andrew Kuykendall was medalist with a 75.

Effingham's Max Seachrist was ninth with an 80. Also competing for the Hearts were Jude Traub 82, Rayden Schneider 84, Cannon Bockhorn 90, Leo Wyckoff 91 and Evan Pryor 94.

"I was disappointed as we did not play our best today," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "We still have some matches left and regionals at our place so, hopefully we can rebound and play our best then."
