St. A Wins Two Titles, EHS Third, Golf Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony claimed two golf championships during the weekend.

The Bulldogs won their own junior varsity invitational Friday at Fore Way Golf Course with 146 followed by Salem 163, Teutopolis 164, Effingham 164, Mattoon 168, Charleston 186, Sulilvan 188 and Altamont 189.

St. Anthony took the top three individual spots as Jack Swingler was medalist with a 35 followed by Ethan Karolewicz 36 and Maddux Clark 36. Also scoring for the Bulldogs was Alec Hakman 39.

Teutopolis scorers were Noah Koester 39, Dylan O'Brien 41, Owen Kramer 41 and Landyn Thoele 43.

Scoring for Effingham were Blayne Pals 39, Brady Boehm 41, Jack Poe 41 and Ross Schaefer 43.

St. Anthony varsity then won the Paris Invitational Saturday at Eagle Ridge with a 309 tally followed by the Bulldogs junior varsity team with a 322. Charleston 324, Teutopolis 334, Paris 342, Olney 348, St. Joseph-Ogden 360, Bismarck-Henning 366, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 379 and Altamont 411. Tri-County and Westview had golfers but not enough for team scores.

Scoring for the Bulldogs were Lane Ludwig 75, Ryan Schmidt 75, Dakota Flaig 79 and Joey Trupiano 80. Scoring for the junior varsity team were Jack Swingler 78, Maddux Clark 80, Drake Brown 81 and Alec Hakman 83.

Schmidt and Ludwig were medalists with a 75 each.

Effingham placed third in the Mount Zion Cup.

At Mount Zion

Effingham competed in the Mount Zion Cup Invitational Saturday. The Hearts finished third out of 13 teams with a 326.

"This was a nice twist," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "One alternate shot team and one scramble team. It was a tough and fun format. We had a great day.

"Freshman Jude Traub and Leo Wyckoff had the best round of the day shooting 69 in the scramble for first place. Evan Pryor and Rayden Schneider finished with 77 in Better Ball and Max Seachrist and Cannon Bockhorn drew the toughest assignment shooting 80 in alteraate shot.

"Our goal was 321 and we ended with 326 so we were really close."

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg's Clayton Carey and Andrew Petzing had an 85 in the scramble. Nathaniel Gracey and Rylan Rincker had 74 and finished second in Four Ball. Jacob Vonderheide and Ross McCormick tallied an 88.

Jude Traub and Leo Wyckoff finished first in the Scramble.

 

At Pana

Effingham St. Anthony's girls squad competed in the Pana Invitational Thursday. The Bulldogs shot a 171.

Addie Krouse had a one under par 34. Gianna Frisbie finished with a 44, Sydney Kibler 45, Mia Schwing 48 and Brooklyn Phillips 49.

Lincolnwood finished with a 191 and Taylorville 245. Pana had no team score.

 

At Shelbyville

Shelbyville claimed a 198-208 win over Altamont in golf action.

Scoring for Altamont were Gavin Flack 42, Justin Kollmann 54, Daniel McCammon 55 and Alex Walker 58. Non-counters were Justin Brummer 66 and Jack Mathesius 69.

Scoring for the Rams were Hampton Petska 45, Zayne Hankins 49, Drew Nohren 50 and Jack Arthur 54. Non-counters were Jack Lockart 54 and Mason Jones 59.
