St. Anthony Fifth At John Macek Golf Invite, T-town, Newton Win Triangulars

CHAMPAIGN -- Effingham St. Anthony tied with Mahomet-Seymour for the championship of the John Macek Boys Golf Invitational Wednesday at the University of Illinois Orange Course.

But the Bulldogs ended up with a second place finish out of 16 teams as the tiebreaker is the fifth score for both teams.

Mahomet-Seymour won with 303 followed by St. Anthony 303, Edwardsville 319, Benton 320, Evanston 325, Charleston 334, O'Fallon 336, Bloomington 337, Mount Zion 338, Champaign Central 343, Champaign St. Thomas More 344, Monticello 349, Rantoul 351, Kanakee 354, Bismarck-Henning 375 and Champaign Centennial 411. Urbana players competed but not enough for a team score.

Edwardsville's Mason Lewis was medalist on the day with a 72.

St. Anthony's Preston Phillips captured third place with a 73, Joey Trupiano sixth place with a 75 and Charlie Wegman 10th place with a 77. Also competing for the Bulldogs were Lane Ludwig with a 78. Dakota Flaig with 86 and Ryan Schmidt with 88.

 

At Effingham

Teutopolis captured a quadrangular boys meet Wednesday.

The Wooden Shoes tallied 161 followed by Effingham 164, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 171 and Sullivan 200.

T-town's Coen Pennington was medalist with a 36. Also scoring were Ethan Thoele 40, Isaac Weber 41 and Hayden Tebbe 44. Non-counters were Brody Thoele 45, Kole Ohnesorge 46, Noah Koester 47 and Hayden Jansen 53.

Scoring for Effingham were Max Seachrist 38, Jude Traub 41, Evan Pryor 42 and Rayden Schneider 43. Others competing were Leo Wykoff 43, Brody Boehm 45, Cannon Bockhorn 47 and Jack Poe 50.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg was led by Rylan Rincker 38. Also scoring were Nathaniel Gracey 39, Ross McCormick 47 and Jacob Vonderheide 47. Non-counters were Clayton Carey 48 and Briar Smith 51.

Sullivan's Brett Bushue scored a 39 followed by Daniel Downs 52, Drew Woolen 53, Cameron Crowe 56, Brady Stallard 56 and Caden Saul 59.

 

At Robinson

Newton competed in a boys triangular at Oak Glen Golf Course in Robinson and came out the winner.

The Eagles tallied a 166 followed by Lawrenceville 171 and Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville 186.

Newton's Gunner James was medalist with a 37. Also scoring were Grant Fulton 41, Michael Kennedy 42 and Evan Johnson 46. Ajay McCann added a 58.

Competing for Lawrenceville were Carter Davis 41, Boston Gray 43, Hudson Meek 43, Jaxton Chansler 44,  Noxy Gray 49 and Isaiah Stitt 51.

Golfers for OPH were Riley Blank 42, Carson Musgrave 46, Brody Beabout 47, Bentley Cook 51, Cole Littlejohn 54 and Ace Coulter 55.
