CHARLESTON -- Effingham and Effingham St. Anthony competed in the Charleston 9 Hole Girls Golf Scramble Monday.

The Effingham pair of Elena Niebrugge and Ella Tuman came out the duo champions in a scorecard playoff with Mattoon. The pair shot an even par 36.

Meanwhile, St. Anthony captured third place as a team. Mia Schwing and Sydney Kibler tallied a 38 to capture third as a duo while Addison Krouse and Brooklyn Phillips had a 41 and Gianna Frisbie and Nora Trupiano also had a 41.

"There is an incredible margin for improvement for this group of girls," said St. Anthony assistant coach Morgan Briggerman. "With three freshmen playing this well and three returning players, we can only go up from here. Super proud of them and their outcomes for their first match."

Salem won the team title with 77 while Mattoon was second with 78 and St. Anthony third with 79. Effingham finished fifth with an 85.

Along with Niebrugge and Tuman, were Effingham's Grace Harper and Natalie Armstrong with a 49 and Makenna Mayhood and Allison Kroenlein with a 49.
