It was a great day for Effingham golfers in the Effingham St. Anthony Boys Golf Invitational Friday.

St. Anthony High School captured its own invitational followed by Effingham in second and St. Anthony 2 in third at Indian Springs Golf Course in Filmore.

"What a day for Effingham golfers," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "With St. Anthony taking first and third and my team placing second, that's an incredible feat. That is a lot of good golf for our town no matter who your rooting interest is. Congrats to St. Anthony and Coach Zaccari. They have an incredible team."

The Bulldogs put together a 308 total followed by Effingham 317, St. Anthony 2 318, Vandalia 323, Breese Central 328, Father McGivney 333, Teutopolis 335, Pleasant Plains 340, Richland County 344, Hillsboro 344, Paris 348, Sullivan 387, Greenville 391, Marshall 402, Altamont 438 and Decatur St. Teresa 559.

Vandalia's Conner McCall was medalist for the meet with a 66, far ahead of the rest of the field as he was the lone player to score in the 60's.

Second went to Effingham's Max Seachrist with a 71 followed by T-town's Coen Pennington 73, Vandalia's Jonah Beesley 73, St. Anthony's Lane Ludwig 74 and Dakota Flaig 74, Paris' Parker Underwood 75, Breese Central's Konnor Kueper 75, Father McGivney's Joey Hyten 75 and Richland County's Ayden Nealls 75.

"I couldn't be happier for my kids," said Coach Schafer. "They played great. Max finished his second high school tournament with his second, second place finish. Jude Traub fired a 76 in his second high school event. Rayden and Evan Pryor both had 80's. Rayden overcame a dreadful start and rebounded beautifully and Evan just played really solid all day. Evan was entered as an individual.

"Both of these young men did not travel to yesterday's event. But showed a lot of character by responding well today. Brody had another good scoring day as well. We just need to get where we can get them all in the low 80's and have a couple 70-somethings in there and we can be in the hunt for the regional, which is our goal."
