Effingham Team, Several Area Individuals Advance to Sectional Play

Effingham High School might have missed out on the regional golf championship by one shot Thursday, but the entire team still advanced to sectional play.

Jerry Trigg's Hearts posted a 378 team total, one stroke behind Mattoon's 377 score at the regional at Charleston Country Club.

The advancing team includes Marah Kirk, who shot a 90, Ella Niebrugge with a 93, Anna Hirtzel with a 95, Marissa Allie with a 100, Elena Niebrugge with a 102, and Ella Tuman with a 112. 

Also advancing was St. Anthony's Addie Krouse, who was medalist on the day with a 77. Madison Brummer of St. Anthony shot a 98 and will advance, along with Halle Bushue and Alaina Helmink, both of Teutopolis, who moved on to sectionals after shooting a 101 and a 102, respectively.

Abigail Wortman of Teutopolis--102; Sophia Pearcy of Altamont--104; Mia Schwing of St. Anthony--106; Brileigh Bloemer of Teutopolis--111; Sydney Kibler of St. Anthony--115; Mollie Koester of Teutopolis--120; Josie Deters of Teutopolis--126; Bailey Owens of Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg--133; Gabriella Weishaar of Altamont--146.

The sectional tournament will be played on Monday, October 3 at Lincoln.
