St. Anthony Wins 1A Regional, Boys Golf Roundup

ROBINSON -- Effingham St. Anthony captured the championship of the Class 1A Robinson Boys Golf Regional Wednesday.

The Bulldogs scored a 311 followed by Mount Carmel 343, Robinson 369, Teutopolis 370, Flora 382, Marshall 384, Hamilton County 388, Newton 399, Altamont 418, Carmi-White County 420, Casey-Westfield 420 and Oblong 447.

Medalist for the regional was Mount Carmel's Kollin Kelsey with a 72. St. Anthony had three golfers in the top five. Joey Trupiano was second with a 36-39 -- 75, Michael Martelli was third with a 39-38 -- 77 and Preston Phillips was fifth with a 38-41 -- 79. Lane Ludwig took sixth with an 40-40 -- 80, Coen Pennington eighth with a 43-40 -- 83 and Jonathan Willenborg 14th with a 42-46 -- 88.

Along with St. Anthony advancing as a team were Mount Carmel and Robinson to the St. Anthony Sectional scheduled for Monday, Oct. 3.

The top 10 individuals, not members of qualifying teams, also advance to the sectional. Among them were Altamont's Avery Jahraus who finished 11th with an 86 and Newton's Grant Fulton who finished 15th with an 89. Teutopolis, who just missed qualifying as a team, had Kole Ohnesorge who finished 12th with an 88 and Ethan Thoele who finished 21st with a 91, advance.

Other Wooden Shoes participating were Brody Thoele 95, Adam Lustig 96, Gabe Schlink 99 and Hayden Jansen 100.

Other's participating for Altamont were Gavin Flach 107, Zeke Rippetoe 107, Tyler Ruffner 118, Alex Walker 118 and Daniel McCammon 133.

Newton's other golfers were Michael Kennedy 101, Evan Johnson 103 and Gunner James 106.

North Clay was represented by Riley Poe with a 105 and Jacob Arnold with a 149.

 

Class 2A Charleston Regional

Effingham High School competed in the Class 2A Charleston Regional and one EHS golfer will be heading to the Waterloo Sectional Monday, October 3.

Colby Haynes finished with an 87 to advance as an individual.

Mattoon won the regional with a 317 followed by Charleston 332, Richland County 333, Arcola 342, Mount Zion 347, Paris 350, Effingham 366 and Lawrenceville 407. Mattoon, Charleston and Richland County advance as teams.

Medalist was Richland County's Alex Nealis with a 73.

Three individuals from Paris, three from Arcola and three from Mount Zion, along with Effingham's Haynes advance as individuals.

Also competing for the Hearts were David Splechter 92, Evan Pryor 93, Brody Boehm 94, Rayden Schneider 99 and Cannon Bockhorn 104.

 

Class 1A Monticello  Regional

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg competed in the Monticello Regional and will have one individual advancing to the Class 1A Mason City Illini Central Sectional Monday, October 3.

Monticello won the regional with a 326 followed by Decatur St. Teresa 375, Heyworth 379, Moweaqua 386, Sullivan 405, Macon Meridian 409, Okaw Valley 409, LeRoy 414, Mount Pulaski 418, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 425, Shelbyville 435, Blue Ridge 444 and Pana 545.

Monticello's Will Ross was medalist with a 76.

WSS' Rylan Rincker advanced as an individual by placing 21st with a 97. Other Windsor/Stew-Stras individuals competing were Clayton Carey 103, Brody Henrickson 112, Nathaniel Gracey 113, Briar Smith 115 and Jack Holland 133.
