St. Anthony Boys Golf Takes Second, Third in Catholic Schools Invite, T-town Third At Olney

Effingham St .Anthony placed second in the Olney Boys Golf Invitational Friday and was third in the Catholic Schools Invitational Saturday at the Spencer T. Olin Course in Alton.

 

In Friday play, Olney won its own invitational with a 319 followed by St. Anthony 333, Teutopolis 348, Flora 349, Paris 349, Mount Carmel 351, Marshall 353, St. Anthony 2 368, Lawrenceville 372, Robinson 372, Sullivan 397 and Sullivan 2 490.

Olney's Alex Nealis was the medalist, shooting a 73.

St. Anthony's Coen Pennington took third with a 77 while Ryan Schmidt was sixth with an 80. Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Jack Swingler 21st with an 87 and Charlie Wegman 24th with an 89.

Others competing were Aidan Tegeler 31st with a 91 and Alec Hakman 45th with a 97.

Scoring for Teutopolis were Ethan Thoele fifth with an 80, Hayden Jansen 22nd with an 88, Gabe Schlink 27th with an 89, Adam Lustig 29th with a 91 and Brody Thoele 42nd with a 95. Also competing was Kole Ohnesorge 52nd with a 100.

Scoring for St. Anthony 2 were Drake Brown 19th with an 86, Ethan Karolewicz 23rd with an 88, Maddux Clark 39th with a 94 and Matt Herzing 53rd with a 100. Non-counting scores were Keenan Griffith 61st with 107 and Luke Anderson 71st with 137.

In the Catholic Schools Invitational Saturday, Belleville Althoff won with a 306 followed by Quincy Notre Dame 309, St. Anthony 310, Breese Mater Dei 330, Alton Marquette 333, Father McGivney 341, Waterloo Gibault 375 and Alton Marquette JV 376.

Belleville Althoff's Max Bruening was medalist with a 72.

St. Anthony's Jonathan Willenborg took sixth with a 37-39 -- 76 while Dakota Flaig was seventh with a 40-37 -- 77 and Preston Phillips 10th with a 36-42 -- 78. Joey Trupiano also scored with a 42-37 -- 79. Non-counters were Lane Ludwig 39-41 -- 80 and Michael Martelli 45-40 -- 85.
