EHS Wins Litchfield Girls Golf Classic, St. A Claims Boys Title

LITCHFIELD -- Effingham High School claimed the girls championship while St. Anthony took the boys title at th Litchfield Panther Classic at Indian Springs Golf Course Saturday.

The Hearts finished with a 355 followed by St. Anthony 370, Litchfield 382 and Auburn 394. Jerseyville and North Mac also had players competing but not enough for team scores.

Effingham St. Anthony's Addie Krouse was medalist with a 75.

Scoring for the Hearts were Ella Tuman 87, Marah Kirk 88, Anna Hirtzel 88 and Ella Niebrugge 92. Those four were in the top eight. Also playing for the Hearts were Marissa Allie 99 and Elena Niebrugge 103.

Also scoring along with Tuman for the Bulldogs were Madison Brummer 92, earning 10th place, Mia Schwing 100 and Allison Geen 103.

On the boys side, St. Anthony claimed the championship with a 307 followed by Salem 325, Litchfield Varsity 331, Teutopolis 341, Litchfield Junior Varsity 356, North Mac 384, Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran 388 and Metro East  Lutheran 411.

Medalist went to Jairen Stroud of Salem with a 70. The Bullldogs' Charlie Wegman shot a 37-38 -- 75 for fourth place followed by teammates Coen Pennington 39-38 -- 77 in fifth, Ryan Schmidt 40-37 -- 77 in sixth and Jack Swingler 78 in eighth.

Non-counting for the Buldogs were Aiden Tegeler 46-45 -- 91 and Ethan Karolewicz 42-45 --87.

Scoring for the Shoes were Ethan Thoele 78, finishing seventh, Adam Lustig 87, Kole Ohnesorge 87 and Hayden Jansen 89. Non-counting scores were Brody Thoele 92 and Gabe Schlink 107.

 

At Edwardsville

St. Anthony competed in the Edwardsville Invitational Friday and Saturday. The Bulldogs finished third with a 297-315 -- 612.

Winning was Belleville Althoff 299-299 -- 598 followed by Edwardsville 308-301 -- 609, St. Anthony, Pekin 295-320 -- 615, O'Fallon 315-302 -- 617, Springfield 309-314 -- 632, Normal Community 304-320 -- 624, Alton 312-327 -- 639, Breese Mater Dei 311-329 -- 640, Alton Marquette 318-339 -- 657, Normal U-High 319-0 -- 319, Belleville East 335-337 -- 672, Breese Central 326-0 -- 326, Belleville West 325-358 -- 683, Columbia 336-348 -- 684, Waterloo 337-0 -- 337, Father McGivney 338-353 -- 691, Collinsville 311-0 -- 311, Quincy 352-0 -- 352 and Vandalia 431-0 -- 431.

Medalist was Springfield's Peyton Woods with a 138.

Playing for St. Anthony were Jonathan Willenborg, who finished ninth, 70-77 -- 147, Preston Phillips 72-81 -- 153, Lane Ludwig 77-78 -- 155, Michael Martelli 79-80 -- 159, Dakota Flaig 78-82 -- 160 and Joey Trupiano 83-80 -- 163.

 

 At Flora

In a junior varsity contest, Flora edged St. Anthony, 168-171 Friday.

Flora's Adam Puckett was medalist with a 38.

Scoring for St. Anthony were Drake Brown 41, Maddux Clark 42, Alec Hakman 43 and Keenan Griffith 45. Non-counters were Matt Herzing 52 and Luke Anderson 62.

Flora golfers were Atwood, Ollie Collins 43, Jacob Stanford 43, Dakota Spitzner 44, Hunter Osborne 44 and Ethan Hairston 46.

North Clay's Riley Poe had a 46 and Cisne's Adam Atwood had a 38.
