St. A, Altamont Boys Golfers Reach State

Effingham St. Anthony finished second to advance to sectional golf action.
MCLEANSBORO -- Effingham St. Anthony claimed second place and will advance to the Class 1A State Golf Tournament as a team Monday along with two individuals from Altamont at the McLeansboro (Hamilton County) Boys Golf Sectional.
Oblong won the sectional title with one stroke better than St. Anthony with a 320 followed by the Bulldogs 321 and Vandalia 321. Those three teams move on to the Class 1A State Tournament scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington.
Scoring for the Bulldogs were Jonathan Willenborg 76, Thomas Chojnicki 80, Joey Trupiano 81 and Lane Ludwig 84. Non-counting scores were Michael Martelli with an 88 and Dakota Flaig with a 90.
Along with the Bulldogs advancing to State were two Altamont golfers as individuals. Kevin Hall and Tyler Stonecipher, both seniors, tallied a 77 each.
Other individuals advancing are A.J. Johnson (Gorevile) 73, Luke Lasley (Anna-Jonesboro) 74, Parker Boehne (Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran) 76, Ben Herron (West Frankfort) 77, Antonio Ybarra (Edwardsvile Metro-East Lutheran) 78, Joey Hyten (Glen Carbon Father McGivney) 78, Lucas Whittington (West Frankfort) 78 and Caleb Tribe (Marissa) 79.
Other scores for Altamont were Avery Jahraus 89, Zeke Rippetoe 95, Max Runge 107 and AJ Kopplin 112.
Class 2A Effingham Regional
Effingham High School played host to a regional Monday but did not advance three individuals who were competing.
Breese Mater Dei won the sectional title with a 293 followed by Benton 296, Belleville Althoff Catholic 315, Mattoon 319, Mount Zion 327, Highland 329, Metropolis Massac County 331, Chatham Glenwood 333, Columbia 334, Paris 335, Jerseyville Jersey 338 and Mount Vernon 348. The top three teams advance.
Medalist for the sectional was Carbondale's Ian Davis with a 68.
Effingham had three golfers competing. Ryker Schneider shot an 83 while Colby Haynes had an 85 and Ethan Ritz a 95.
"Ryker shot one of the best rounds of his career today," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "I'm happy for him and Colby played pretty good also. Ethan reached a goal he set to play in the sectional. The golf course was awesome for the weather we had the last two days. ECC and our atheltic director did a great job with this event."
Other individuals advancing were Ian Davis (Carbondale), Brent Hansen (Mount Zion) 71, Dominick Emig (Highland) 76, Preston Phillips (Charleston) 77, Blaine Powers (Mattoon) 78, Blaze Greathouse (Mount Vernon) 78, Konnor Kueper (Breese Central) 78, Mason Seymour (Jerseyville Jersey) 78, Myles Kampwerth (Breese Central) 78 and Madden Johnson (Mattoon) 79.
