Wendling Named GCAA All-America Scholar

Nebraska's Jackson Wendling was one of just 273 NCAA Division I men's golfers around the country to earn a prestigious Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar award in 2018, as named by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Wendling, a 2018-19 senior from Effingham, Ill., has been a leader for the Huskers on and off the course during his career. As a junior in 2017-18, Wendling competed in 29 rounds for the Huskers and compiled a 74.76 stroke average on the season. He earned a lineup spot in all 10 of Nebraska's tournaments during the 2017-18 season and finished as the top Husker in four of those events.

Of the course, Wendling earned academic All-Big Ten honors for the second straight season and was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters. The two-time academic All-Big Ten choice and six-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection was also a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2017.

To be eligible for a GCAA Scholar All-America award, a golfer must be a junior or senior academically and have competed in at least three full years at the collegiate level, while participating in at least 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds. At the Division I level, he must also carry a stroke average of better than 76.0 and maintain a cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2 or better. The student-athlete must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
