Bulldogs, Hearts Compete At John Macek Golf Invite

CHAMPAIGN -- Effingham and Effingham St. Anthony competed in the John Macek Boys Golf Invitational put on by Champaign Centennial High School Monday.

Charleston was the team champion with a 301 followed by Mattoon 320, Champaign Central 323, Bloomington 327, St. Anthony 332, Bismarck-Henning 339, Champaign Centennial 348, Monticello 350, Danville 356, Effingham 374, Champaign St. Thomas More 375, Taylorville 395 and Urbana 435.

Mattoon's Nick Nguyen shot a 72 for medalist honors. St. Anthony's Luke Ludwig captured fourth place with a 37-37 -- 74. Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Dylan Ferguson 41-42 -- 83, Nathan Schultz 42-45 -- 87 and Zach Wortman 43-45 -- 88. Non-counters were Ben Strullmyer 50-39 -- 89 and Luke Flaig 52-45 -- 97.

"Luke played another solid round to place overall," said St. Anthony Coach Phil Zaccari. "He is real close to going really low. We gave him a little more support today, finishing a respectible fifth place."

Effingham was led by Jacob Sigg with an 88 followed by Aiden Beck 89, Tate Niebrugge 94 and Brett Koester 103. Colby Heaton shot a 108.
