One of Effingham High School's most successful golfers has decided to take his game to the collegiate level.

Callaway Smith Wednesday signed a letter of intent to play at Maryville University of St. Louis. Smith, the son of Doug and Gwyn Smith, plans to major in actuarial science.

When asked what he thinks is the strongest part of his game, Smith said it's his play around the green.

Smith was in action at the state tournament this fall. He said it's fun to consider that he is helping establish tradition at EHS, hoping that others will follow him to State as he has followed Jackson Wendling.
