Friday Good Day for Area Players at State Tournaments

There's pretty good golf played by boys and girls on either side of the creek.
Friday was a good day for area athletes competing at the state golf tournaments.
Teutopolis' boys are in fourth place after the first day of competition at the state event with a +47 score. Dylan Buenker led the way with a 77, followed by Christian Deters and Brayden Bushue each with an 85, Keegan Meyer with an 88, Will Schlink with a 93, and Jacob Herd with a 108 total.
In addition to the Teutopolis boys, St. Anthony sophomore Luke Ludwig is also at State, having shot an 81 to finish his first day at 25th in the tournament, being held at Prairie Vista Golf Club in Bloomington.
At the 2A state tournament at the Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University in Normal, Effingham senior Callaway Smith fired a 79, leaving him in a tie for 36th.
At the girls state tournament at Red Tail Golf Club in Decatur, the St. Anthony girls are in seventh place after the first day with a +69 total. St. Anthony scores: Ava Wegman 82, Clare McHugh 87, Abbie Schmidt and Regan Koester each a 94, Regan Koester a 97, and Abby Repking a 121.
Effingham's Alex Brummer is playing as an individual, and fired an 83, good for 17th place heading into Saturday action.
