MATTOON -- Effingham captured first in a triangular girls golf match while Effingham St. Anthony took second at the Mattoon Country Club Thursday.
The Hearts tallied 197 followed by St. Anthony 199 and Mattoon 204. Medalist was Mattoon's Kira Wolf with a 39.
Scoring for Effingham were Alex Brummer 46, Keira Hirtzel 46, Abbi Burgess 51 and Lindsey Stevenson 54. Non-counting scores were Kennedy Collier 55 and Jade Depoister 58.
Scoring for the Bulldogs were Ava Wegman 44, Abby Schmidt 48, Clare McHugh 51 and Regan Koester 56. Non-counting scores were Abby Repking 61 and Jessica Coffin 67.
Scoring for Mattoon were Wolf, Natalie Zimmer 54, Carson Gordon 54 and Cassi Dow 57. Non-counters were Haleigh Miller 63 and Abby Spidle 68.
At Casey
Effingham moved its record to 7-4 with a 174-187 win over Casey-Westfield in boys golf action Thursday.
Matt Linders and Ryan Sandifer shot a 40 each for co-medalist honors. Also scoring were Jacob Sigg 47 and Aiden Beck 47. Non-counting scores were Nate Linders 47 and Tate Niebrugge 55.
Ashton Rodgers led the Warriors with 42 followed by Patrick Hacker 45, Trey Huisinga 48 and Payne Austin 52. Non-counting scores were Aden Graver 66 and Bryce Ramsey 68.
"We had a good round tonight," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "Matt and Ryan really stepped up and led us as Callaway wasn't feeling well. It was great to see those guys be leaders and help us win this match and share medalist honors. Nate Linders also had one of his better varsity rounds as well."
At Ramsey
Altamont fell to Ramsey in boys golf action, 169-171.
Altamont's Dylan Miller was medalist with a 39. Also scoring for the Indians were Noah Kopplin 41, Grant Schmidt 42 and Harrison Fitzjarrald 49. Non-counting scores were Austin Wendling 53 and Nathan Hill 56.
Scoring for Ramsey were Marcus Coss with a 40, Mason Fesser 42, Camren Neisler 42 and Logan Ernst 45. Non-counters were Marc Grigoroff 53 and Dillon Whitten 58.
Altamont, Ramsey and Vandalia had girls competing but the Indians and Vandals didn't have enough for team scores. Ramsey golfers were Samantha Stok 50, Kourtney Janss 50, Cecelia Ritter 57 and Kianna Shouse 67.
Altamont golfers were Addie Smith 51, Ashley Goeckner 58 and Violet Wendling 65.
Vandalia golfers were Alisha Swain 49 and Breann Swain 55.
At Mattoon
Effingham St. Anthony's junior varsity boys squad beat Mattoon's JV 172-185 Thursday.
The Bulldogs' Jayden Rios was medalist with a 38. Also scoring were Ryan Schultz 43, Zach Wortman 45 and Augie Heal 46. Non-counting scores were Ben Strullmyer 47, Alex Erickson 47, Ethan Rozene 49 and Darin Hutchison 49.
Scoring for Mattoon were Deacon Letner 41, Kaden Hyland 46, Lane Gass 49 and Mason Phipps 49. Other golfers were Caleb Coleman 52, Perry Curtis 56, Cason Vodakin 58 and Houstis Halderson 63.
At Teutopolis
The Teutopolis girls squad played at the Effingham Country Club Thursday. There was no team score kept as Windsor/Stewarsdon-Strasburg had only one golfer, Katie Greuel with a 52.
T-town's scores were Hoene 48, Magee 52, Thoele 56 and Niebrugge 57 for a team 213 total. Vogt had a 62 and Koester a 63.
