EHS Girls Win Triangular, Golf Roundup

PANA -- Effingham High School captured first in a girls golf triangular at Oak Terrace Golf Course Tuesday.
The Hearts tallied a 181 followed by Pana 222 and Mount Zion 260. Medalist was Effingham's Alex Brummer with a 40.
Also scoring for EHS were Abbi Burgess 46, Kiera Hirtzel 46 and Jade Depoister 49. Non-counting was Kennedy Collier 49.
Scoring for Pana were Strom 45, Kramer 46, Epley 65 and Hendrickson 66. Non-counters were Pauley 68 and Le Due 71.
Mount Zion scorers were Isabel Shafer 61, Riley Houser 64, Maddie Lutt 66 and Kynleigh Blake 69.
At Robinson
The Teutopolis girls traveled to Robinson and finished with 210 as a team. Robinson had only three golfers so had no score.
Magee and Niebrugge tied for medalist honors with a 48 each. Also scoring for the Shoes were Hoene 52 and Thoele 62. Non-counting scores were Vogt and Koester with a 67 each.
At Charleston
Effingham High School traveled to the Charleston Country Club and dropped to 5-4 on the season with a loss to the homestanding Trojans.
Charleston tallied a 166 to improve to 18-0 while Effingham had a 173.
Effingham's Callaway Smith was medalist with a 37. Also scoring for the Hearts were Jacob Sigg 41, Ryan Sandifer 45 and Tate NIebrugge 50. Non-counters were Aiden Beck 50 and Nate Linders 54.
"We came close today to pulling a huge upset," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "It was a bad day for Matt Linders to be sick. But Callaway played great and Jacob Sigg had his best round of the year. He is playing better as is Ryan. He is rounding into form at the right time."
Scoring for Charleston were Robert Rardin 38, Keegan Gowin 41, Ben Iamman 43 and Preston Smith 44. Non-counting scores were Blake Wolfe 44 and Zack Will 44.
The Hearts finished fourth at the Paris Invitational last weekend. Charleston took first with Mattoon second, Bismarck-Henning third and EHS fourth. There were 16 teams participating.
Smith finished second with a 75. Other scores were Linders 89, Sigg 89, Sandifer 91, Niebrugge 96 and Beck 99.

At Altamont
Altamont fell to visiting Flora by a 175-183 count. Altamont's Grant Schmidt was medalist with a 39.
Also scoring for the Indians were Dylan Miller 42, Noah Kopplin 48 and Austin Wendling 54. Non-counters were Addie Smith 63 and Harrison Fitzjarrald 67.
Scoring for the Wolves were Drew Woodrow 41, Aven Kimmel 42, Landon Carder 45 and Trenton Brown 47. Non-counting scores were Ty Warren 54 and Will Lehman 66.
Altamont girls scores were Ashley Goeckner 57, Melanie Williams 62 and Violet Wendling 76. One JV player for the Indians was Nathan Hill with 58.
At Teutopolis
Teutopolis won a triangular boys golf meet Tuesday. The Wooden Shoes tallied 153 followed by Robinson 185 and Marshall 185.
Scoring for the Shoes were Christian Deters 36, Dylan Buenker 37, Jacob Herd 39 and Branson Bushue 41. Non-counting scores were Keegan Meyer 42 and Will Schlink 48.
At Effingham
Effingham St. Anthony's junior varsity squad played host to Salem. The Wildcats took a 161-164 victory at Fore Way Golf Course Tuesday.
Salem's Max Phillips was medalist with a 35 followed by Connor Brooks with a 38. Also scoring for the Wildcats were Justin Stinson 44 and Noah Griffin 44. Non-counters were Cameron Hoard 46 and Garrett Murphy 49.
St. Anthony's Zach Wortman had a 39 followed by Luke Flaig 40, Jayden Rios 42 and Ryan Schulte 43. Non-counting were Ethan Rozene 43 and Ben Strullmyer 45.
