St. A Boys, Girls Win Windsor Invites, T-town third, EHS Girls Second; EHS Fourth at Mt. Zion

The St. Anthony boys golf squad captured the Windsor Invitational. Members of the team are, left to right, Dylan Ferguson, Nathan Schultz, Luke Ludwig, Jacob Schmidt, Niko Dust and Trey Koester.
Effingham St. Anthony High School won both the boys and girls Windsor Golf Invitationals Saturday at the Fox Prairie Golf Course.
The boys squad won with 323 followed by Hillsboro 325, Teutopolis 329, Arcola 333, Sullivan 344, Okaw Valley 355, St. Anthony No. 2 369, Maroa-Forsyth 369, Shelbyville 380, Altamont 392, Mattoon JV 420, Casey-Westfield 426, Windsor 438 and Greenville 497.
Medalist honors went to Sullivan's Ellis with a 70. Arcola's Miller also shot a 70 to finish second. St. Anthony's Luke Ludwig finished seventh with a 38-40 -- 78. Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Nathan Schultz who finished ninth with 41-39 -- 80, Niko Dust 41-40 -- 81 and Jacob Schmidt 40-44 -- 84. Non-counting scores were Dylan Ferguson 41-43 -- 84 and Trey Koester 42-42 -- 84.
Teutopolis finished third in the boys meet. Christian Deters captured sixth place with a 77. Also scoring were Keegan Meyers 82, Dylan Buenker 82 and Braydon Bushue 88. Non-counting scores were Carter Jasen 98 and Will Schlink 101.
The St. Anthony girls team took first with a team score of 378. Leading St. Anthony was Clare McHugh with an 85.
She was followed by Ava Wegman 89, Abbie Schmidt 96 and Regan Koester 108. Non-scorers were Jessica Coffin 114 and Abby Repking 122.
Alex Brummer, from Effingham High School, was the tournament medalist with an 83. The Hearts finished in second place with a 386 followed by Windsor 406, Greenville 455 and Teutopolis 460.
Also scoring for the Hearts were Keira Hirtzel with a 95, Abbi Burgess with 104 and Lindsey Stephenson with a 104. Non-counters were Jade Depoister 105 and Kennedy Collier 110.
In a girls golf match Friday, St. Anthony finished second in a triangular against Pana and Raymond Lincolnwood. Lincoln took first with a 185 followed by the Bulldogs 186 and Pana 225.
St. Anthony's McHugh led the way with a 44 followed by Schmidt 45, Wegman 45 and Koester 52. Non-scorers were Coffin 55 and Repking 57.
At Mount Zion
Effingham High School finished fourth in the Mount Zion Boys Golf Invitational. Champaign Central won with 221 followed by Mattoon 226, Charleston 230, Effingham 246, Centennial 246, Decatur St. Teresa 260, Clinton 281, Maroa-Forsyth 282, Mount Zion 266, Okaw Valley 290 and Mounds Meridian 331.
"We had a good day today," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "I was pleased with all of our guys' effort. The weather was awful to start and I am pleased our guys hung in there and did a nice job. Next week is a big week for us so we hope to get some good weather and try to finish strong."
The cup results were: Best ball -- 75 Callaway Smith and Tate Niebrugge, third place; Scramble -- 73 Matt Linders and Ryan Sandifer, fifth place; and Alternate shot -- 98 Aiden Beck and Jacob Sigg, tied for eighth place.
