St. Anthony Takes Sixth at Challenge at the Den

Effingham St. Anthony High School finished sixth at the Challenge at the Den boys golf meet Thursday.

Normal U High and Neuqua Valley finished tied for first with 5 1/2 points followed by St. Charleston East 5, Normal West 5, Normal Community 4, St. Anthony 3, Bloomington 3 and Washington 1.

"This event is a semi Ryder Cup format where the teams compete in nine hole match play to win points," said St. Anthony Coach Phil Zaccari. "The team with the most points at the end is the winner. We were the only 1A school in this event."

In singles play:

Luke Ludwig lost his first match vs. U-High player, 3-2

Luke Ludwig won his second match vs. Normal West Player, 2-1 (1 point)

Jacob Schmidt lost his first match vs. Bloomington player, 5-4

Jacob Schmidt won his second match vs. Washington player, 2-1 (1 point)

Better Ball Matches:

Niko Dust and Zach Wortman lost their first match to Neuqua Valley, 4-3

Nike Dust and Zach Wortman lost their second match vs. St. Charles East, 1-0

Nathan Schultz and Trey Koester won their first match vs. Normal Community, 2-1 (1 point)

Nathan Schultz and Trey Koester lost their second match vs. Neuqua Valley, 2-1

 

At Tuscola

Altamont finished third in a triangular meet. Tuscola won with 180 followed by Mount Zion 181 and Altamont 196.

Medalist was Tuscola's Seth Icenogle with a 37 at the Ironhorse Golf Club.

Scoring for Altamont were Dylan Miller 44, Noah Kopplin 46, Grant Schmidt 47 and Harrison Fitzjarrald 59. Non-counters were Austin Wendling 65 and Nathan Hill 69.
