Effingham Captures First-Ever Girls Golf Regional Championship

SALEM -- Effingham High School captured its first-ever girls golf regional crown at the Class A Salem Regional Tuesday.

The Hearts tallied 350 followed by Salem 371, Breese Central 383, Breese Mater Dei 389, Effingham St. Anthony 394, Highland 405, Hillsboro 406, Greenville 415, Teutopolis 426 and Litchfield 440.

Effingham's Alex Brummer, Hillsboro's Lindsey Storm and Salem's Megan Gallatin shared co-medalist honors with a 78 each. Brummer tallied a 38 on the front nine and a 40 on the back.

Also scoring for the Hearts were Hope Collier who finished fifth with a 43-39 -- 82, Kaylee Tonn who took ninth with a 43-46 -- 89 and Keira Hirtzel who finished tied for 22nd with a 51-50 -- 101. Non-counters were Madison Weis tied for 31st with a 54-50 -- 104 and Abbi Burgess 56th with a 55-75 -- 130.

Effingham St. Anthony had two golfers advance to sectional play. Ava Wegman finished 13th with a 47-46 -- 93 and Abbie Schmidt who tied for 18th with a 50-46 -- 96. Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Clare McHugh who tied for 22nd with a 49-52 -- 101 and Kyle Burton who tied for 31st with a 51-53 -- 104. Non-counters were Regan Koester 49th with a 60-59 -- 119 and Abby Repking who tied for 57th with a 70-61 -- 131.

T-town's Madison Magee, a sophomore, advances. Magee finished tied for 14th with a 61-52 -- 94.  Also scoring for the Shoes were Allie Niebrugge who tied for 31st with a 51-53 -- 104, Madeline Hoene 39th with a 61-52 -- 113 and Katie Thoele who tied for 42nd with a 60-55 -- 115.

Altamont had two golfers competing. Addie Smith finished 64th with a 147 and Jayci Quast finished 67th with a 177.

The qualifiers advance to the Carterville Sectional Monday at Crab Orchard Golf Club. The sectional begins at 8:30 a.m.

 

At Pana

One lone area player competed in the Class A Pana Regional at Oak Terrace Golf Course Wednesday.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg's Katie Greuel finished tied for 21st with a 49-57 -- 106 but did not advance to sectional action.

Charleston won the championship with a 335 followed by Raymond Lincolnwood 391, Tuscola 451, Carlinville 466, Pana 471, Sullivan 350, Mount Zion 416 and Shelbyville 479. Charleston's Lauren Chappell was medalist with a 68.
