EHS Second in Boys, Girls Apollo Conference, Area Golf Roundup

MATTOON -- Effingham High School nabbed second place in both the boys and girls Apollo Conference Golf Tournament Monday at the Mattoon Country Club.

In the boys meet, Mattoon was the team champion with 330 followed by Effingham 340, Mount Zion 340, Salem 348, Charleston 355 and Taylorville 365.

The Hearts' Callaway Smith claimed medalist honors with a 73. Also scoring for EHS were Reed Schafer 86, Jacob Sigg 90 and Ryan Sandifer 91.

Mount Zion's Danny Miller was second with a 78 followed by Connor Black from Taylorville 78, Nichols Nguyen of Mattoon 79 and Brenden Boles of Salem 80 in the top five.

In the girls meet, Charleston won with 329 followed by Effingham 383, Salem 387 and Mattoon 433. Charleston's Lauren Chappell was the medalist with a 69.

Effingham's Alex Brummer finished with an 80 to take third place.

The top eight finishers in both the boys and girls meets were named All-Apollo Conference. Smith was named from Effingham for the boys while Brummer was named for the girls.

At Urbana

Effingham St. Anthony competed against Bloomington Central Catholic and Champaign St. Thomas More and finished second in boys golf action.

Central Catholic tallied 169 followed by St. Anthony 180 and St. Thomas More 188. St. Thomas More's Tyler Vodacek was medalist with a 38 on the Urbana Country Club Course.

Scoring for St. Anthony were Niko Dust 41, Jacob Schmidt 45, Jeff Niebrugge 47 and Luke Ludwig 47.

Teutopolis picked up a boys golf victory over Salem by a 166-175 count Monday at the Effingham Country Club.

T-town's Christian Deters and Sullivan's Caden Ellis had a 38 each. Also scoring for the Shoes were Keegan Meyer 41, Braydan Bushue 43 and Mat Weber 44.

In girls action, T-town tallied a 201 team total. Sullivan had only three players. Scoring for the Shoes were Katie Thoele 47, Madison Magee 49, Allie Niebrugge 50 and Maddie Hoene 55. Thoele was the medalist.

Altamont captured a dual meet win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Monday at Fox Prairie Golf Course Monday.

The Indians tallied 181 while Windsor/Stew-Stras had 210. Neoga's Luke Baker was medalist with a 37.

Scoring for Altamont were Adam Mayhaus 44, Logan Deadmond 45, Noah Kopplin 45 and Dylan Miller 47. The Indians are now 11-4 on the season.

Scoring for Windsor/Stew-Stras were Katie Greuel 52, Logan Greuel 52, Logan Stremming 54 and Sterling Howard 54.
