St. Anthony High School tied for fourth place at the John Macek Golf Invitational Monday while Effingham tied for seventh place.
Normal West won the meet with 313 followed by Monticello 333, Breese Central 340, St. Anthony 344, Centennial 344, Bloomington 346, Effingham 347, Mattoon 347, Danville 364, Champaign St. Thomas More 365, Urbana 374, Bismarck-Henning 378, Taylorville 401 and Judah Christian 417.
The Hearts' Callaway Smith finished in a three-way tie for first place. Smith shot a 76 along with Brandon Bulls of Normal West and Cooper Bailey of Normal West.
"Congratulations to Callaway on tieing for first at the Champaign Invite," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "Callaway overcame starting out his day with a double bogey. He did a great job overcoming his slow start to tie for first . As a team we only finished seven shots out of third place. We knew losing three seniors last year would make it more difficult, but we have to keep getting our new guys more experience.
"We have a week off now to try to fine tune some things as we start our nine hole matches. We want to continue our string of wins as we went undefeated last year. The boys want to keep that streak going."
Scoring for St. Anthony were Jared Hutchison 44-39 -- 83 who finished tied for 14th, Luke Ludwig 42-42 -- 84, Niko Dust 43-44 -- 87 and Jeff Niebrugge 41-40 -- 90. Non-counting scores were Jacob Schidt 43-50 -- 93 and Mitchell Sager 50-48 -- 98.
Scoring for EHS along with Smith were Reed Schafer 89, Ryan Sandifer 89 and Matt Linders 93. Non-counting scores were Jacob Sigg 93 and Michael Woltman 98.
