EHS Picks Up First Loss, St. A JV Falls; Roundup

Charleston claimed a 146-152 win to hand Effingham it's first loss of the boys golf season  Thursday at the Effingham Country Club.

"Charleston played great tonight to give us our first defeat," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "The 146 is the best score that has been shot against us in 15 years. Jackson and Anthony had great rounds again. Sean, Brandon and Michael all had career nine hole lows. I am very proud of all of their efforts."

Medalist on the par 36 golf course was Alex Gowin with two under at 34 for Charleston. Also scoring for the Trojans were Nick Wilson 36, Gabe Cox 36 and Sawyer Newell 40.

Scoring for Effingham were Jackson Wendiling 36, Anthony Lechman 36, Anthony Barrett 40 and Sean Sandifer 40. The Hearts are now 4-1 while Charleston stands at 10-1 on the season.

At Effingham

At Tuscola

St. Anthony dropped a 170-176 loss to Tuscola at the Ironhorse Golf Course in junior varsity action Thursday.

Tuscola's Cameron WEstjohn was medalist for the meet with a 37. St. Anthony's Sam Wortman finished second with a 42. Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Jared Hutchison 43, Kyle Britton 45 and Gus Koester 46.

The Bulldogs are back in action at the Catholic Schools Invite in Alton Saturday.

Newton picked up a victory in a triangular at Oak Glen Golf Course Thursday. Newton scored a 163 followed by Red Hill (Bridgeport) 183 and Robinson JV 233.

Medalist was Red Hill's Z Breault with a 38. Newton's Elijah Knepper tallied a 39. Also scoring for the Eagles were Phil Blank 40, Evan Brooks 42 and Chris Brody 42.

At Oak Glen

Medalist was Windsor's Jason Becker with a 41. Also scoring for the Blue Devils were Jon Luse 42, Tristan Warner 43 and Nik Esslinger 63.

Scoring for the winning Indians were Miles Kopplin 41, Ethan Fitzwilliam 42, Logan Hill 45 and Adam Mayhaus 49. Altamont improves its record to 5-3.
