The EFfingham St. Anthony girls golf team competed in the Alton Marquette Blast-Off Tournament Saturday at Lockhaven Country Club and finished sixth.
Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin picked up the victory with a 322 followed by Normal U HIgh 330, Rochester 333, Edwardsville 335, Quincy Notre Dame 351 and St. Anthony 360 in the top six of 16 teams competing in the field. Sacred heart-Griffing, Normal U and Ewdardsville are Class AA schools. Emilee Flaugher of Ewardsville was the medalist with a 73.
Scoring for the Bulldogs came from Miranda Rohlfing 79, Emmie Schutlz 89, MAdison bushue 94 and MAriah Bushue 98. Non-scorers were Abby Brown 111 and MAddie Schuette 125.
"Miranda Rohlfing played very weil and tied for seventh place out of 96 players with a score of 79," said Coach Brad Rohlfing. "She struggled with her approach shots and missed a lot of greens in regulation but her chipping and putting was good enough to keep her score in the 70’s.
"Ernrnie Schultz shot an 89, but her short game cost her a few strokes. Madison Bushue did her part for the team by posting a consistent round of 94, but is capable of shaving a few strokes off of that score.
"Mariah Bushue shot a 98 partially due to her adjusting to a new set of clubs, and we feel she can do better over time.Abby Brown shot 111 and Maddie Sohuette shot 125. They are two freshman who are new to tournament golf, so we did not expect a lot from them, but they gained valuable experience and will continue to fight for a top 6 spot on the team with the other seven newcomers."
The next match for the Bulldgs will be Thursday. The varsity squad will travel to Charleston Country Club for the rescheduled Lady Trojan Scramble. The junior varsity girls will go to a match in Charleston at Bent Tree against Cumberland.
