Robinson Hands Newton Football Loss

ROBINSON -- Newton High School took the early lead but Robinson came back in the second half for a 35-28 football victory Friday evening.

The Eagles struck early taking a 13-7 opening quarter lead. Hayden Mulvey hit a 34-yard pass completion. Drake Wolf ran the ball from the 45 into the endzone for a 63 yard gain and a touchdown. Henry Will kicked the extra point.

Roibnson tied the score as Reese Johnson connected on a 30-yard pass play and AJ Knoblett ran the ball from the 35 into the end zone for a 67 yard gain and a touchdown. Reid VanShoyck kicked the extra point and the score was tied.

Newton came back as Mulvey hit a 14-yard pass completion and Wolf went into the end zone. The point after failed but the Eagles held a 13-7 lead.

In the second quarter, Robinson's Johnson handed off to Landyn Bonnell at the five for the touchdown. VanSchoyck kicked the extra point.

Newton retaliated as Wolf carried the ball from the four into the end zone for the touchdown. Mulvey connected with Fulton for the point after.

Robinson's Johnson hit a 16-yard pass play to Knoblett for the next touchdown. Vanshoyck hit the point after.

Then it was the Eagles' turn. Mulvey threw a pass to Quincy Fulton for a touchdown. Will connected on the extra point and the Eagles led 28-21 at halftime.

But the second half was all Robinson. The Maroons' Johnson handed the ball off to Bonnell who ran in from the five for a touchdown. The extra point missed but Robinson moved within 28-27.

In the final quarter, Robinson's Johnson threw a pass completion. Knoblett ran the ball from the 20 into the end zone for an 85 yard gain. The Maroons then scored on the two point conversion and that's where the score ended.

Wolf carried the ball 15 times for the Eagles for 92 yards. Fulton had eight carries for 45 yards.

Mulvey hit 15 of 29 passes for 194 yards and three touchdowns.

Defensively, Cole Phillips had four solo tackles and four assists for eight while Landen McClure had four solo tackles and three assists for seven.
