Newton Beats Paris In H.S. Football

Newton High School captured a victory over Paris by a 20-14 count Friday evening in football action.

 

The two teams went scoreless in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Newton's Hayden Mulvey dropped back and threw a 14-yard pass to Drake Wolf who went in for the score. Henry Will kicked the extra point and the Eagles led 7-0 and that's where the halftime score stood.

In the third quarter, Mulvey handed off the ball and Wolf carried it across the goal line from the eight. Will again kicked the extra point and the Eagles led 14-0. 

Paris came back with a touchdown in the quarter to pull within 14-7.

But Newton scored again in the quarter. Mulvey threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Dexter Fulton who went in for the score. Will again kicked the extra point and the Eagles led 20-7.

The Tigers scored a final touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Newton had 17 first downs. Quincy Fulton led in rushing for the Eagles with 71 yards. 

Dexter Fulton pulled in six passes for 100 yards. Mulvey connected on 16 of 26 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns.

Newton's defense was led by Landen McClure with five solo tackles and three assists and Wolf with two solo tackles and six assists.
