Mount Carmel Beats Newton In H.S. Football

MOUNT CARMEL -- Newton fell to Mount Carmel 30-8 in high school football action Friday.

The two teams went scoreless in the opening quarter. The Golden Aces moved ahead with a touchdown by Jackson King in the second period. Newton came back to tie the score when Hayden Mulvey dropped back to the 18 and threw a pass completion. Quincy Fulton ran the ball from the 10 yard line into the end zone. The Eagles then got the two-point conversion as Mulvey connected with Dexter Fulton for the tally.

Mount Camel then came back to move ahead 16-8 at halftime. Elliott Acree ran the ball from the nine-yard line into the end zone.

The Golden Aces then put the game into the victory column with two more touchdowns in the third quarter.

Newton had 17 first downs compared to 14 for Mount Carmel. Newton also had five more yards of total offense with 258 compared to 253 for the Aces.

Mulvey connected on nine of 21 pases for 106 yards and a touchdown. Mulvey also had three carries for 13 yards and Kohlten Barthelme had four carries for 10 yards.
