Effingham Hearts Open Apollo Conference Season, Hosting Mattoon

The Effingham Hearts open their Apollo Conference football season Friday evening, playing host to the Mattoon Green Wave. It will also be Military Appreciation Night at Klosterman Field at Washington Savings Bank Stadium.

The Hearts opened the season with two wins, 54-30 over Robinson and 26-22 over Mt. Carmel, then fell last week, 35-20 at Breese Mater Dei.

Mattoon is 0-3, having lost 47-6 to Decatur MacArthur, 24-22 at Olney Richland County, and 40-14 last week at Monticello.

The Hearts have been led offensively all season by Weldon Dunston, who easily topped 100 yards rushing in each contest. 

The Hearts players will be wearing their camo jerseys as active duty personnel and veterans will be saluted at tonight's game.
